Under the Radar: WR Humans
First off, I’d like to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas. I’m staying in Japan this year and I can’t be with my family. You don’t know how much you’ll miss your family until you can’t see them during the holidays. I wanted to go back, but it just wasn’t in the cards this year. Make sure you tell all of your love ones how much you love them and that you’ve missed them if you’re traveling back to your hometown this week!
My Christmas present to you is a link to my latest post on 60cards.com:
It’s a deck that I’ve seen on and off in Nagoya recently, but it seems really powerful, and could probably give most of the decks in the metagame a run for their money. I’d also like to say that I had a rather productive weekend in Nagoya with my Junk Tokens deck. I went 2-1 at FNM, 2-2-1 on Saturday, 3-2 on Sunday at Big Magic, and 2-1 Today. My goal is to keep my record in the black over the Holidays, and also to grab 100 planeswalker points before January 7th.
So far I’m 9-6-1, but since one of the events was rather small, I’m still probably behind on my point count. I’m looking forward to 4 more events next weekend, so hopefully I can break 60+ points by next Monday. Before I leave you for today, I want to point out some cards that have been great for me in the current metagame:
- Rest in Peace – awesome against UWR flash, especially when their only win condition is Runchanter’s Pike.
- Abrupt Decay – can’t be countered, also great against UWR flash. It’s also the ONLY way to take out a Loxodon Smiter
- Sorin, Lord of Innistrad – can’t say how badass he is enough. With Avacyn’s Pilgrim you can cheat him out by turn 3, and once he starts pumping out tokens it’s really hard for opponents to keep up. His -2 Emblem ability also makes short work of slower opponents.
- Disciple of Bolas – Not many people use him, but he’s a great way to gain life AND to draw cards. The problem with most JUNK decks don’t have any cards outside of Garruk to draw with, which means you can lose your momentum quickly. With so many tokens wanting to be sacrificed, Why not?
And with that I’m going to call it a day. I’m still working on my podcast, so when it’s done and posted, I’ll let everybody know. Thanks for reading and good luck gaming this holiday season!
